Deciding on Visa Type
If you are planning to stay in Mexico for more than a tourist visa permits, you should consider applying for a long-term visa. Popular visas for foreigners in Mexico are temporary resident visas and permanent resident visas.
Mexican Tourist Visa
These are issued for up to 180 days for business or pleasure. However, while on a tourist visa, the purpose of the visit cannot be to work. This is even the case if the employment was seasonal or could be completed within the tourist visa time frame.
Temporary Resident Visa
For the most part, these types of visas encompass work visas, student visas, and the Mexican family visas.
Retiree Visa/Permanent Resident Visa
You can qualify for a retiree/pensioner visa. In order to do so, you must demonstrate a bank account balance of about $150,000.00 over the last twelve months, or, tax-free income amount of roughly $4,000.00 a month.
